Daliah Saper to speak at IWOC Conference
By Saper Law | October 2, 2008
Daliah will speak at the 2008 IWOC Writers’ Conference. She will speak at 11 a.m. on October 25 at National-Louis University.
Daliah will discuss the legal issues relevant to the writing community. She will primarily explain the basics of copyright and media laws so that writers can avoid drafting materials that put them at risk for copyright infringement, or defamation law suits. What does copyright protect? How does a writer obtain and enforce a copyright? What can the writer do to avoid defamation online or in print? What are rights of publicity and how can they impact the writer? Answers to these questions and others important to the writer will be addressed.

2008 IWOC Writers’ Conference
Saturday, October 25, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
National-Louis University, 122 S. Michigan Ave., Chicago
IWOC is the largest organization of professional freelance writers in the Midwest, and some of our most successful members will be on hand to give you their tricks of the trade. If you’ve been thinking of trying the freelance life, you’ll see the big picture and have an opportunity to talk with the people who have made it happen.
But there’s plenty for the experienced writer too. Whether you are a new or seasoned freelance writer, the 2008 IWOC Writers’ Conference is the place to learn almost everything you need to know. The conference will give independent writers of all specialties and levels of experience the opportunity to brush up on their skills, learn new techniques, and reposition themselves in this increasingly competitive marketplace. In addition to successful writers, speakers include editors, marketing professionals, and an expert on the law of communications.
The day offers something for every interest. There will be eight presentations and panels from which attendees can choose six. Two popular presentations are Jim Leman’s “Cold-Calling Bootcamp” (the bible for growing a business for those who have heard him), and Catherine Rategan’s “The Zen of Writing.” View the complete conference schedule and speakers’ bios.
All this for the extremely low cost of $99 for IWOC members, $109 for members of other writers’ organizations, $129 for nonmembers, and $40 for students with valid IDs. (If you’re not an IWOC member, you can save $30 off the nonmember cost by joining IWOC at the conferance or beforehand. Click here to join IWOC now.) The conference price includes a continental breakfast with bagels and muffins, a delicious box lunch, and beverages throughout the day.
