FOX 32’s Tia Ewing interviewed Social Media attorney, Daliah Saper, about Facebook’s September 3rd announcement that it would ban all political ads on its platform a week before November’s presidential election.
Daliah explained that while Facebook must balance concerns of platform neutrality, preventing voter suppression and ensuring an effective election process are also top priorities for the company. As soon as social media platforms start editing user-provided information they lose their liability immunity. Facebook’s choice to place a wholesale ban on content a week before the election represents their attempt at ensuring an effective election process without editing or co-authoring individual content posted on its platform.
