On April 27th, 2021, Daliah Saper appeared on Fox 32 News to discuss Apple’s latest iPhone update, iOS 14.5, and what it’s App Tracking Transparency feature means for data-dependent companies like Facebook.
While the new feature doesn’t technically alter iPhone users’ data control, it more prominently places the decision to opt out of IDFA-based tracking. Now, apps are required to ask permission before tracking users’ data across different apps and websites.
Daliah commented that while Apple users might enjoy the increased privacy, Facebook stands to lose a lot of money in the form of targeted ads. She also mentioned that small businesses could lose competing power if their products’ highly-targeted ad campaigns are hampered by the new feature. She did not think that the feature would significantly affect Apple’s profits.
The new iOS operating system, and App Tracking Transparency feature, released on April 26th, 2021.
