The North American Entertainment Law Summit delivers a four day continuing legal education conference, focused on constantly evolving topics within the entertainment, sports, media, and intellectual property law fields. On November 10, 2018, Daliah Saper will once again serve as a panelist at the 30th Annual North American Law Summit. BMI, in partnership with Saper Law and the Illinois Restaurant Association, sponsored a session recently (8/26) in Chicago on music licensing aimed at educating restaurant and bar owners in the Chicago area on how to legally play music in their establishments. Saper Law clients Kevin Pang and Mark Helenowski are at South by Southwest this weekend in Austin, Texas, for the world premiere of their feature-length documentary, “For Grace.” The film, which was accepted into the 2015 South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival, is the culmination of more than three years of filming, editing, and producing by Pang and Helenowski. The documentary follows renowned chef Curtis Duffy and tracks the creation of Duffy’s restaurant, Grace, from concrete box to its opening night. Songwriters that attended the ever-popular event included Sara Evans, Anders Osborne, Kacey Musgraves, Robert Earl Keen, Kree Harrison, Rhett Akins, Matraca Berg, Tony Joe White, Dean Dillion, and many more.
Daliah is looking forward to speaking at Wilmette Public Library on basic trademark and copyright law. The workshop will take place in the Auditorium, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will cover the general requirements, protections, and issues pertaining to trademark and copyright law. On Friday, March 14, Daliah Saper and Shyla Jones presented "Law 101 for the New Business Owner" at the Chicago Creative Expo hosted by the Chicago Cultural Center. The presentation covered a host of startup and business-related topics, including business entity formation, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, contracts, licensing, and other intellectual property issues. Daliah and Shyla also fielded a number of questions from the entrepreneurial audience. It was a great discussion and a fantastic event.
