Event Details

Join us on November 1, 2018 from 2pm to 3pm to learn how Europe’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) could impact your business. RSVP HERE

Workshop Overview and outline:  A few months ago you may have noticed an influx of emails asking you to opt in to receiving future correspondence because of “GDPR.” GDPR stands for the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which is a new, rather complicated, set of laws governing EU residents’ data protection and privacy.  Even if your business is based in the USA, GDPR can impact your business operations and your legal liabilities.  There are severe monetary penalties if a company fails to comply with GDPR

During this GDPR 101 workshop, Daliah Saper, Principal Attorney at Saper Law and Enrcio Schaeffer, Founding Attorney at Traverse Legal, will provide an outline of key GDPR provisions and explain the necessary changes businesses will need to make to their terms of service and privacy policies in order to be in compliance.  Software developer, Achyuta Akella, will go over the technical aspects of complying with GDPR including encryption requirements, managing user logins, handling user information after logging out, setting security questions, and securing communication with an overview of when to use HTTPS.

Additional topics covered by all speakers will include how and where to present terms and conditions as well as opt outs to data collection, which data to anonymize, handling information of users who have left the service, data protection officer responsibilities, and implementing the right to access, privacy, and data portability.

Prerequisites for the Workshop:  Attendees should assess whether they have customers in the EU or market to clients or customers based in the EU.  Attendees should also make a list of all third parties with which they share customer information.

Audience:  Business owners, developers, CIOs, CTOs, product officers, designers, marketers, and managers.

Daliah’s court cases involve trademark and copyright infringement, trade secret misappropriation, online defamation, domain name squatting, and commercial disputes. When she is not in court, Daliah helps clients choose the right business entity, drafts corporate bylaws and operating agreements, conducts social media audits and drafts social media policies, clears sweepstakes and contest rules, negotiates business and employment contracts, negotiates software licenses, drafts website terms of use and privacy policies, and provides comprehensive trademark and copyright counseling. Enrico Schaefer is a seasoned trial attorney repenting technology companies, founders and tech-investors on a global basis.  Enrico understands the issues facing technology companies and brick-and-mortar companies with technology, compliance and internet issues. Whether the issue is DNS, ICANN, GDPR, UDRP, ACPA, CDA, DMCA or other acronyms meant to impress, Enrico has the expertise you need to succeed.  More importantly, he is cooler than most lawyers, thinks like an entrepreneur and seeks to find solutions, rather than cause problems.  If litigation is necessary, he has record verdicts across the country.

Achyuta Akella is a Software Developer at Asset Corporation. With over 13 years of professional software development and sadly no end in sight, he does, time and again, advise, architect and code while working with startups and large companies to help them go from an idea to an app.
